The Emergency Care in Sport course covers essential topics specifically focused on the care of athletes within the sporting environment. It emphasises the recognition and field-side management of sick or injured athletes, equipping participants with practical skills through the use of various training aids and realistic simulations. This hands-on approach ensures that healthcare professionals are prepared to respond effectively and confidently in emergency situations during sporting events.
What you’ll learn
Systematic approach and initial assessment of the injured athlete
Neurological emergencies, including head injury and concussion
Spinal and neck trauma, including immobilisation devices, back board and scoop stretcher use
Chest, abdominal, and pelvic trauma
Musculoskeletal trauma and management
Common medical emergencies effecting athletes
Immediate pain management
Emergency Life Support, including:
CPR
Airway management and associated adjuncts
Effective ventilation using a bag-valve mask (BVM)
Defibrillation
Pre-Course Requirements
One day intensive mode:
Complete an online pre-course learning activities and assessment before attending the one-day intensive workshop.
Two-day extended mode:
Complete the online pre-course learning activities and assessments for HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid before attending the two-day extended workshop.
